Trevor Cox’s blog is enjoyable to critique, based on its user friendly appearance. As I started evaluating it, it was clear to me that he has had experience with blogging. One of the things that stood out to me most about his interface was his to-the-point posts. They show great brevity, but they also say important things. I commend him on this, as I tend to take a much longer space to say something.
Through his articles and frequent posts, it is very clear he is doing his readings. It is also clear that he, like I, is trying to find tidbits of certain subjects that really interest him. For instance, instead of recycling a wikipedia entry about Freud, he brings in a pop-culture reference to a TV character who was obsessed with Freud. This is a funny way of incorporating himself into his readings, and I appreciate that.
He has posted several non-assigned entries as well, which is great and shows us that he is doing a lot of self-directed learning. He has posts on fall weather, fonts, on events on campus that he is working for, and other topics that bring personal interest. He has done two digital labs for this block as assigned. I really appreciated his Windows 7 tutorial. I recently became a mac and so I haven't been very up-to-date with the new windows interface. However, Windows 7 is all over campus and I have found myself wishing I knew more about the program. Trevor's tutorial, using camtasia, was a great general overview of the program.
My one speck of advice would be to maybe lengthen his blog entries a bit. One certain post called “Love is the Killer App” sparked my interest, but it didn’t contain a lot more information than a link. I might’ve liked to see a review or something of that matter. There are a few more like this. Why did he post that? He obviously had some interest in it the first place, but I would’ve liked to know what that was, why he stumbled upon that book. This is a personal observation, however. I tend to take more words for my posts, so I am in awe/incomprehension of how straightforward some of his posts are. It seems as if he is fulfilling all of the class requirements and posting often and succinctly, so I’d say that he is doing very well in all the aspects of the class.
