Hello all! This blog post is all about making your own online widget. Widgets are very useful for connecting your blogs and other internet adventures together. For instance, I have this blog, but I also post regularly on two other blogs, so you can see the little widgets I have made on the right column for ididnotdrawthis.blogspot.com, my art blog and treesclaptheirhands.tumblr.com, my photography blog.
Since posting these widgets, I have had an increase in views for both blogs, so its a great way to get more traffic to your internet projects. Here's the resource I use: http://www.widgetbox.com. And here's how you do it:
1. Register! We've all done it a million times and I'm assuming even the most digitally illiterate knows how to confirm a membership, so I'm not gonna go into it.
2. Once you're a member, go to your dashboard and click on the green "make a widget" button.
3. Click on whatever kind of widget you'd like to make. I clicked on the blog button, and then put down my blog that I wanted to use in the box.
4. You'll reach a pretty page that looks like the one above, where you can customize just about everything from the color, to the shape, and pattern of your widget. It's pretty much up to you.
5. Hit "save" when you're done. You should come to a page where your widget is live and you can get the embed code.
6. To add your new creation to your blogger, go to "Design" > "Add A Gadget" > "HTML" and then paste your code. This will make your blog much more alive and interesting for readers.
Long Live Web 2.0!
